The paint sits in broad areas with thin edges where the pigment thins out. Sam Francis works with acrylic and paper in this kind of post war abstract painting practice. The fine art print keeps the open washes soft.

The fine art print uses a matte surface so the light greys stay flat under a lamp. No shine comes off the surface when you stand near it in a bright room. The paper holds the thin paint layers without a gloss that would flatten the wash.

On a hallway wall at shoulder height you notice the thin edges first. From the stairs you see the pale field, and the small gaps between the painted areas show as clean lines.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0791/0162/4571/files/c516d235-b80b-44be-8aa1-b836f7a0474e.jpg?v=1792217060
