Broad colour washes cover parts of the sheet and leave white ground visible around the painted marks.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The painted areas sit against the bare paper and the contrast keeps the shapes clear. Sam Francis worked with these open grounds and loose paint bands.

A dark frame on a pale wall lets the white ground stay bright beside the painted masses. Hang it above a plain wall near a window at eye level so daylight reads the light tones and leaves the bare paper visible.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0791/0162/4571/files/3c8d1955-2d22-4cc1-acad-49945f6a781e.jpg?v=1792192014
