Quatre Gestes Noirs 1983 — Fine Art

Quatre Gestes Noirs 1983 shows four dark marks pressed into a pale ground. The strokes vary in weight and sit apart from each other. The work follows the material painting practice Antoni Tapies used through the late twentieth century. Hand applied strokes and a plain ground stay close to the artist working method.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The paper is matte, so the black marks stay flat and the pale ground does not shine under a ceiling light. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the pale ground clear.

On a bedroom wall near the desk the four strokes read from a chair across the room. Up close the paper grain shows beside each mark.
