About this work
Le tout - 1978 shows blocks of colour pushed across a sheet in broad strokes. The paint stays loose, with edges that stay soft where one block meets another. Bram van Velde worked in this way for years, laying colour on paper without smoothing it down. You see the hand in the uneven edges and the small shifts between blocks.
This fine art print keeps that surface plain under a white frame. The white frame sits around the image without drawing the eye away from the colour. It gives the sheet a clear edge on the wall and leaves the paint marks in view.
Hang it on the wall in a kitchen where morning light falls across the counter. From the table you notice the broad colour blocks first, then the softer joins between them.
