About this work
Boats in the Port of St. Tropez shows small boats resting on water beside a shoreline. Henri-Edmond Cross uses warm yellows and soft pinks set against cooler blue and green tones. The colour blocks sit next to each other and the eye reads the sea and the sky as separate areas.
The fine art frame finishes in white, wood, dark wood or black. A white frame keeps the pale water tones open. A wood frame adds a warm edge beside the sunlit boats. The frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall.
It works in a study above a desk. From the doorway you see the grouped boats and the flat water. From the chair you notice the small colour shifts between each hull.
