About this work
Untitled - 1956 shows a field of paint with loose strokes and a few darker spots. The marks move across the sheet without a fixed shape. Emil Schumacher worked with gestural paint marks during the postwar years.
This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. The paper is matte, so the paint colours stay dull and the dark spots do not shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall lets the painted field read clearly from the hall.
It hangs on a dining room wall near the table. From the chair you see the broad painted areas and the small spots of darker paint. The room feels steady with the picture there.
