About this work
Hellblau im Licht - 1965 shows a field of pale blue tones arranged in horizontal bands. The colour sits flat across the sheet with small shifts from one band to the next. Ernst Wilhelm Nay worked with thin paint and a steady hand in this late abstract period.
The fine art print sits toward the top of a wall above a desk. A dark frame on a pale wall keeps the blue tones clear under normal room light. The matte surface keeps the greys and blues soft without a shine.
In a study room the viewer sees the blue band first, then the slower shifts between the tones. The picture stays quiet from that distance. A wood frame beside a bookshelf keeps the look simple.
