About this work
Untitled - 1961 shows a field of painted colour with no clear subject. A few broad bands lean across the surface and the rest stays open. The eye moves from one shape to the next. Ernst Wilhelm Nay made similar colour studies in his later years.
This fine art print uses matte paper and a frame with a clean edge in white, wood, dark wood or black. The frame finish sets a clear line against the painted field so the shapes do not fade into the wall.
In a dining room the broad bands read from the table. You notice the open space first and the colour later. The framed piece looks settled on the wall without drawing attention away from the room.
