About this work
Burnt Norton, 1972- by Helen Frankenthaler takes its name from a place in time. The surface holds thin colour washes that spread and thin out on their own. Helen Frankenthaler worked with this soak stain approach throughout her career. The painting stays open and quiet, with shapes that fade at the edges.
The fine art frame comes in a white, wood, dark wood or black finish. The frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. A white frame keeps the pale tones clean. A wood finish adds a warm line beside the colour.
It works above a long sofa, viewed from across the room. The thin colour washes read as soft bands, and up close the edge of the frame holds the view together.
