About this work
Untitled - 1951 shows a quiet northern scene, with broad colour bands set over a flat ground. The eye rests on the weight in the lower part of the picture. Lawren Harris worked in this way during the modernist period, building space from simple forms.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The frame comes in white, wood, dark wood and black. A white frame keeps the colour bands clear and gives the print a steady edge on the wall. The matte surface stops the light from bouncing off the flat ground.
Hang it on a stairwell wall where the light changes through the day. From the bottom step you see the full shape of the bands, and near the turn you notice the small gaps between them.
