About this work
Untitled - 1962 by Robert Goodnough presents broad painted bands of colour laid over a muted ground. The paint sits in layered patches, with softer edges where one colour meets another. You can see the hand of the artist in the uneven spread of pigment.
The fine art print uses matte paper so the colours stay flat and do not shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the painted bands separate from the room behind them.
In a hallway with pale paint, the broad colour blocks read from the far end. You notice the small shifts between tones as you pass the picture on your way out.
