About this work
Untitled Red and Orange on Salmon - 1969 shows broad painted fields set on a salmon ground. The upper tones run red and orange across the sheet.
The fine art print comes ready to hang. The bands blur at the edges and blend into the lighter base. Mark Rothko worked in colour field painting, building soft rectangles of tone that sit next to each other.
The white frame gives the picture a clear line on the wall and keeps the lighter salmon tone from fading into the room. You see the orange band first when you stand near the kitchen table, then the red field above it, and the salmon ground holds them together.
