Istria V 2011 — Fine Art

Istria V 2011 by Gotthard Graubner belongs to the broader abstract painting practice of the late twentieth century. The work presents layered colour fields built up through repeated glazes on a stretched canvas. A quiet rhythm of translucent layers sits across the surface.

The image is a fine art print set in a frame with a white, wood, dark wood or black finish. That frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall, so the layered colour sits against a firm border.

It hangs in a study above a desk where afternoon light reaches the surface. You see the change in each layer across the sheet, not just the top tone.
