In the Vastness of Sorrowful Thoughts

In the Vastness of Sorrowful Thoughts by Hans Hofmann shows a field of colour divided by moving lines. The marks push and pull across the sheet, a practice this artist used for many years. Thick paint and quick gestures build the surface.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The paper is matte, so the painted marks stay soft and there is no shine under a lamp. The frame gives the sheet a steady edge. It arrives assembled when the ready to hang option is used.

It hangs above the desk in a study. From the chair you notice the dark lines crossing the field. The light from the desk lamp falls on the matte surface and leaves the grey tones quiet.
