Flotilla

A spill of thin paint moves across the sheet in Flotilla - 2006. Helen Frankenthaler let the colour run into the ground, so the edges soften where the wash thins out. The shapes stay open and the space between them is part of the picture.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The sheet arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. The matte surface keeps the lighter washes from catching a glare on the wall.

It fits well above the radiator in a narrow hallway. You see the broad washes from the bend in the corridor, and the thin edges of the paint when you stop by the coat hooks.
