About this work
Gateway - 1988 uses the soak stain method Helen Frankenthaler made famous. Thin paint washes into the ground and leaves open edges where the pigment thins out. The title points to a passage, and the painted field gives that idea a quiet shape. Wide colour shapes sit on a soft ground.
This fine art print arrives set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface lets the washed colour stay flat and keeps the light edges from glaring. The frame supports the sheet so the image reads as a finished wall object.
It fits a narrow hall where the paint field can settle on the wall. From the turn in the corridor you see the broad shapes, and near the door the thin colour edges become clear. The space stays simple and the painted passage holds the view.
