About this work
Round Trip - 1957 opens with a broad painted field laid across the sheet. Helen Frankenthaler lets the wash spread and settle into the paper. Thin ribbons of colour run in one direction, then fade out. The marks feel loose and open, never filled in.
A fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface keeps the painted bands soft and stops glare from a lamp. The frame gives the sheet a clean edge so the open colour has room around it.
In a kitchen, the print hangs on the wall beside the window. Morning light hits the pale paper and the darker band behind the stove stays quiet. From the table you see the loose colour edge first, then the thin ribbon behind it.
