About this work
The title 12.XI.59 - 1959 names a date, and the painting uses that date as its subject. Julius Bissier wrote the date on the picture with thin pencil lines and a few painted shapes. The surface stays quiet and the marks stay close together.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang with a metal hanger on the back. It goes straight onto a nail or screw, so the painting goes up on the wall without a separate frame. The hanger holds the print flat and keeps the date and lines where you can read them.
It fits a hallway wall beside a door, where the date and the pencil lines show in passing light. From the stairs you notice the written numbers first, and the painted shapes stay quiet behind them.
