Magenta sits hard against green in Interlocking Forms Big Magenta With Green - 1959. Karl Benjamin blocks the two colours so each edge meets a clean line. The shapes press against each other without blending. You see the colour straight on, with no soft fade between the fields.

The print arrives as a fine art print set in a frame, with a back panel. The matte paper holds the magenta and green flat, so the colours do not shine back at you under a lamp. The frame keeps the edges clean and the back panel keeps the sheet flat.

On a narrow hallway wall the two colours read from the first step past the door. You notice the hard line where the green meets the magenta, then the flat colour spreads across the wall.
