Diderot S Harpsichord or the Merchant of Venice — Fine Art

A piano keyboard and stringed frame appear in this Man Ray work. The title Diderot S Harpsichord or the Merchant of Venice points to an old instrument drawn in his style. Soft greys and black lines build the shape from a plain background.

The picture reads clearly across a room, and the fine art frame gives the image a clean edge. A white finish keeps the border simple so the keyboard stays in view. A dark wood finish adds a solid line around the lighter tones.

In a study, the keyboard lines draw the eye first. Step closer and the surface shows small painted marks. The frame edge divides the image from the wall without pulling attention away.
