Return to Reason — Fine Art

Return to Reason by Man Ray uses a flat image laid on a plain ground. The picture is black on a bare background. No depth or shadow pulls the eye in. The marks stay on one level and the shape reads as a simple object.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The frame holds the image flat and the back panel covers the rear. When the ready to hang option is used, the piece arrives assembled.

It fits a blank hallway wall with a single bulb overhead. From the end of the hall you see the solid shape first. Closer, the clean edge of the frame and the flat black form come into view. The image does not compete with the doorway behind it.
