About this work
In on Blue - 1976 shows a broad field of blue paint laid across the sheet. Thin colour spreads from the center outward in a soak stain technique. The edges stay open and uneven.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. Helen Frankenthaler poured and brushed thin paint onto raw canvas so the pigment soaked into the weave. The blue field reads as one quiet mass from far away. Closer up you see small shifts in the wash where the paint settled into the cloth.
A metal hanger is fitted to the back so the sheet goes straight up on a nail or screw. You do not need a separate frame. It works on a kitchen wall near the sink where the blue field catches morning light and the open edges stay visible from the counter.
