Peinture 12 November 2008 diptyque - 2008 shows wide black strokes laid on a pale ground. The two panels keep the same rhythm across the join.

Pierre Soulages leaves the lines bold and the paper tone clear. From far the black shapes hold the eye, up close the pencil edges break into small marks. The paper is matte so the greys stay soft under a lamp.

A metal hanger is fitted to the back and goes straight onto a nail or screw, so the fine art print goes up on the wall without a frame to buy. It works on a stairwell wall where the steps narrow the view. From the bottom step the black runs read as one long band, from the landing the thin pencil lines appear at the side.
