About this work
The Long Table with Fruit - 1949 shows a wooden table holding a cluster of fruit in warm reds and yellows. The paint sits in loose patches across the surface, with the fruit shapes built up from separate strokes rather than a single smooth layer.
The fine art print comes ready to hang. Patrick Heron worked with paint on canvas, often placing objects on a table and letting the brushwork decide the edge of each form.
The black frame holds the warm patches tighter and makes the table edge read as a hard line. You see it from the far end of a narrow dining room, where the table runs toward you and the fruit sits just above the skirting board.
