About this work
To B W T
To B W T by Philip Guston shows a few blunt shapes on a painted ground. The brushwork is loose and the colours stay muted.
The title keeps the picture open, so the marks do the talking. You read the broad forms across the room and the small paint ridges up close.
A dark frame on a pale wall lets the soft tones stay steady under a warm bulb. It reads well on a hallway wall above the shoe shelf, where the shapes hold their weight from the mat. Fine art paper holds the greys without a shine.
