About this work
The painting Sistina I - 1987 uses the name of the Roman chapel to hold a sweep of warm reds and dark tones across the sheet.
Piero Dorazio often left the surface open and let the brush travel in broad strokes. The fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel and arrives ready to hang on the wall.
It holds the soft red ground without flattening the paint into a flat colour. In a narrow hallway near the stairs you notice the red band before the small marks, and the frame keeps the whole thing steady at eye level.
