About this work
Flower Vase 1942 shows a plant stem rising against a plain painted field. The bloom carries a warm red tone, set against cooler pale greens. Shadow falls softly at the base of the stem. The marks feel loose and direct, in the painterly style of Rene Portocarrero.
The fine art print uses matte paper, so the reds stay soft and the pale greens do not shine under a lamp. A white frame gives the picture a clean edge on the wall, and the white keeps the tones separate.
Hang it in a narrow hallway with one bare bulb. From the far end you see the red bloom first, then the pale greens, and the white frame sits just inside the paint.
