The Striped Dress 1938

A woman stands in a striped dress against a plain ground, her body turned slightly away from the edge of the picture. Henri Matisse builds the figure from broad colour areas, with the stripes running across the skirt and up toward the shoulders.

This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. From across the room the lines read as a single pattern, and up close the edges soften where one area meets the next. The paper is matte, so the flat colours stay even and there is no shine under a lamp.

A metal hanger is fitted to the back and the print goes straight onto a nail or screw without a separate frame.
