Flatland River — Fine Art

Flatland River - 1997 by Wayne Thiebaud shows a wide stretch of land drawn in thin washes of earth tones. The river runs through the middle, painted with slow strokes that leave soft edges on the paper. The land forms read as broad bands rather than detailed ground.

This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. From across the room the bands stay clear. Up close, the paint shows its dried edges and the paper grain beneath.

The white edge sits neatly against the pale sky and does not pull the eye away from the river bend. It works well in a small study with a plain desk. From the desk chair you see the broad land shapes first and the river line second.
