About this work
Metamorphosis (medieval) (1961)
A fractured face materializes from a mosaic of medieval fragments. Manuel Rivera's Metamorphosis (medieval) assembles a portrait from what seems like the ruins of a forgotten era, each piece telling its own silent story.
The artwork is a collage of muted earth tones, ochre, and umber, interspersed with the occasional hint of cobalt. The fragments come together to form a face, a testament to Rivera's ability to create unity from chaos. The texture of the pieces suggests aged parchment and stone, adding depth and history to the composition.
This poster brings a sense of contemplation and intrigue to a study or library, inviting viewers to ponder the stories behind the fragments.
