Jean-Paul Riopelle was a Canadian abstract painter and sculptor associated with the Automatistes and the Ecole de Paris, celebrated for his densely worked mosaics of vibrant, palette-knife applied colour that evoke landscape and nature with extraordinary material richness. He is considered one of the greatest Canadian artists of the 20th century.
