Simon Hantai

Simon Hantai was a Hungarian-French abstract painter who developed his signature pliage (folding) technique, in which canvas was folded and crumpled before being painted and then unfolded to reveal an intricate, unpredictable pattern of coloured and white shapes. His rigorous, process-based works are among the most innovative in post-war European abstraction.
