Three rectangles of color, stacked and softly defined, fill the canvas. This is Mark Rothko's No. 46 (Black, Ochre, Red Over Red), a study in subtle tension. The edges blur where the forms meet, creating an interplay of presence and ambiguity.
The topmost rectangle, a deep black, anchors the composition. Beneath it, a band of ochre glows faintly, as if lit from within. The lowest form, a muted red, seems to recede and advance at once. The colors hum against each other, quiet but insistent.
