Gerhard Richter builds this picture with thin layers and quick hand marks, a method he has used for many years. The work is titled 19 3 92 and it leaves room for the eye to settle on what is there. You notice the soft shifts between tones before any hard line.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The frame keeps the paper flat and the back panel closes the package. When the ready to hang option is used, it arrives assembled. The matte surface keeps the tones steady under indoor light.

In a hallway above a narrow console the print reads as a calm strip of tone. From the stair landing you see the soft bands, and from the next room the frame edge picks up the wall colour.
