About this work
24th Street Intersection - 1977 shows a city street corner painted in Wayne Thiebaud style. The buildings sit flat against the sky, and the road leads the eye toward the crossing. Warm yellow and dusty blue sit side by side, and the shadows stay soft rather than sharp. The paint sits on the surface in visible layers.
This fine art print uses a white frame finish. The white edge keeps the picture clear on the wall without pulling the eye away from the street scene. The white sits plainly against the yellow and blue, so the colours do not fight the frame.
It fits a narrow stairwell where the steps turn twice. From the landing you see the whole crossing, and the yellow window boxes catch the light first.
