About this work
A heavy cut tree trunk stands in a garden patch beside the asylum walls. The ground lifts into the pale sky with short strokes. Vincent van Gogh painted this corner of the asylum garden with a sawn-off tree near Saint-Rémy.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The print uses matte paper, so the greens and grays stay flat instead of shining under a lamp. A dark frame on a pale wall keeps the heavy tree shape clear from the doorway.
It fits above a desk in a study, where the day light lands on the left side of the paper. From the chair you notice the cut trunk blocking part of the path, and the low garden wall drawing the eye toward the tree.
