About this work
A Taste of the Invisible 1927 by Rene Magritte stays with the surrealist painting practice. The picture keeps a plain painted ground with a few solid forms set on it, a quiet arrangement that asks for a careful look. You see the shapes first, then the space around them.
The fine art print sits on a wall where the light is soft and even. A light frame on a dark wall lets the plain painted ground read clearly, and a wood frame beside wooden furniture ties the scene to the room. The print does not need bright light to show its forms.
On the landing wall above the stairs, the picture waits at a steady height. From the bottom step you take in the whole painted ground, and from the top you notice the small painted marks around each form.
