About this work
Achrome - 1959 by Piero Manzoni shows a field where colour has been left out on purpose. White clay and kaolin cover the picture and the surface stays bare. The artist kept paint away from the picture, so the page reads as a plain ground with no added hue.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The frame finish is white and the clear edge of the frame runs along the picture. That white edge holds the clay field in place and keeps the light grey tones from spreading out under a lamp.
You see it on a bedroom wall where the morning light comes in low. The bare clay stays calm next to a wooden chair and the frame line stays sharp against the plaster.
