Achrome — Fine Art

Achrome - 1960 sits on a plain ground with a surface that looks matte and dense. The art covers the sheet in a flat layer of coloured material that leaves no brush stroke visible. Piero Manzoni treated the surface as a field to be read, not as a picture of something else.

The print is made on fine art paper with a matte finish so the surface stays even under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall, a dark frame on a pale wall, or a wood frame beside wooden furniture lets the finish follow the room.

It hangs in a study on the wall beside a desk. From the doorway you read the solid surface first. When you stand near the desk the sheet looks quiet and plain, with no shine reflecting back.
