About this work
Across the Orange Moons 1967 shows thin black lines moving across a bright field. The lines curve and cross without a fixed grid. Alexander Calder made this kind of open drawing in his later years. The shapes stay loose and the empty space around them is part of the work.
This fine art print is made on matte paper that takes the black ink as a flat tone. The frame finish can follow the room, with a light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture. The soft surface keeps the lines from looking too sharp under a lamp.
It hangs on a pale wall in a bedroom at waking height. From the bed you see the long curves first. From the dresser you notice the thin crossings and the quiet space between them.
