About this work
A group of pine trees stands dark on a bright hillside in Algoma in November - 1935. The paint is laid in clear blocks of colour, with short strokes across the trunks. From the doorway you read the trees as a row of shapes. Up close the brush marks appear in separate strokes.
This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. The print is signed and numbered on a matte sheet, so the grey sky stays flat under a lamp and the dark trees hold their edge without shine. A light frame on a dark wall lets the hillside sit forward on the surface.
On a wide hall wall above the stairs the picture reads as three dark forms on a pale ground. At the bottom step the colours stay clear and the paper surface stays quiet.
