About this work
Arcades at L Estaque 1908 shows a row of arches set side by side, with the empty sky behind them taking up most of the space. The view settles on the solid columns first, then drifts back toward the open gaps between them. You read the arches as a simple pattern before the colour holds you.
The fine art print comes ready to hang. The white frame gives the picture a clean edge on the wall. That line keeps the arches from spilling into the room, and the white sits quietly against the painted arches without pulling the eye.
On a stairwell landing, the arches line up well against the steps below. From the top tread you notice the rhythm of the columns first, then the open space above the arches when you look down.
