About this work
Berkeley #46 by Richard Diebenkorn breaks the picture into long horizontal bands of muted green, tan and blue. The painting keeps a steady horizon across the sheet, with a few thin lines cutting through the painted fields.
From the other side of the room the bands read as a calm row of colour. Up close the brush edges show where each band starts and stops.
The print is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface holds the flat colour without shine, so the green and blue stay even under a lamp. You can see the painted bands clearly on a narrow wall in a hall where the light is steady and the view is open.
