Big Sur Calm

Big Sur Calm shows a quiet coastline with land rising on one side and water on the other. Eyvind Earle uses clear outlines and flat colour bands to make the scene read simply. The main weight rests near the lower part of the sheet, with open space above.

This fine art print sits on a matte surface so the flat colours stay clean and there is no shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall or a dark frame on a pale wall lets the frame follow the room.

It works well above a long sofa in a quiet living room. From the door you see the main land shape first, up close you see the thin line marks between land and water.
