Blue — Fine Art

Blue opens on a field of soft tones laid down in layered strokes. The marks spread across the picture like a quiet rhythm. Frantisek Kupka worked with colour as the main subject, building form out of light and shadow.

A fine art print on matte paper holds the paint like a flat wash. The surface stays dull under strong light, which helps the lighter shades stay true. You can place the frame flush against the wall, with a soft shadow that does not pull the eye away from the colour.

It hangs on a narrow hallway wall beside a coat hook, where the light changes through the day. From the end of the hall you notice the calm sweep of the bands, and you see the small shifts in tone as you pass.
