About this work
A thick painted stroke cuts across the sheet with small drops of paint around it. Brushstroke with Spatter 1966 takes a single bold gesture and lets it sit plainly on the page. Roy Lichtenstein often turned a hand mark into a subject of its own.
The fine art sheet hangs on the wall you walk past most often. Light from the ceiling keeps the spatter dots soft and the paper does not glare. A dark frame on a pale wall lets the stroke sit without competing.
In the kitchen, the mark hangs above the sink where you see it while washing up. You notice the rough edge of the stroke and the small dots while the kettle boils.
