Chanel No. 5 by Andy Warhol

A black perfume bottle stands against a white ground. This is Warhol’s Chanel No. 5, distilled to its commercial silhouette. The label is gone; only the bottle’s curves and the gold cap remain. Warhol screen-printed the same outline twice, slightly offset, so the image flickers like a misaligned television. The white background is not blank—it carries the ghost of the squeegee’s pass.
