Chaos Nr 2 1906 shows a field of overlapping loops and fine crossing lines in soft colour against a pale ground. The marks sit in blue, green and yellow tones that push and pull against one another. Hilma af Klint built the layout in a geometric abstract style, with each band reading as a separate thought.

A fine art print on matte paper keeps the mid tones soft and stops a bright lamp from washing out the pale areas. You can hang the piece on a wall that faces the light around mid day, so the layered lines stay readable without glare.

It works on the wall beside a reading chair in a bedroom, where the eye catches the quieter colours from the side and the smaller pencil marks stay visible at a short distance.
