About this work
A metal coffee pot sits on a table, warm tones around the body and cooler tones at the edges. Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted the pot with loose colour patches, and the eye lands on the curve of the lid. The background stays plain so the pot does the work.
The fine art print sits on a wall with a light frame on a dark wall or a dark frame on a pale wall. The matte paper keeps the colour patches steady and does not shine under a lamp. The frame finish can follow the room and sit beside wooden furniture.
On a kitchen wall near the sink you see the pot first, then the plain ground around it. The shapes stay clear from the doorway and the lid catches the light when you pass by.
