Collioure Landscape 1906

The picture shows a hillside near the harbour town of Collioure with small boats drawn up on the shore. Henri Matisse built the scene from wide colour areas and quick brush passes. The red roofs and blue sea sit beside pale green ground.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The white frame gives the picture a clean edge on the wall and keeps the painted field away from the plaster. A wood frame does the same with a warmer line.

You see it on a wall above a desk, with a lamp set to one side. From the chair you read the big colour bands first, then the short brush lines near the boats. The light stays soft on the paper and the frame edge stays clear.
